BIG SOUTH RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced on Monday that UNC Asheville's Drew Pember had been named the League's Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played between February 13-19. It marks the fifth time this season that Pember has earned this honor and the eighth time in his career. Pember's eight player of the week awards is the most for any player in the history of UNC Asheville men's basketball and is tied for the third-most in Conference history.
Pember averaged nearly a double-double (20.5 PPG, 9.5 RPG) in Asheville's two wins over Radford (63-54) and Gardner-Webb (75-63) last week. Pember also dished out seven assists and blocked five shots in those two meetings. He posted a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double in Saturday's win over Gardner-Webb that clinched the Big South regular season title for the Bulldogs. Pember was also very efficient last week shooting 52.2 percent from the field and made 15 of his 19 free throw attempts (78.9 percent).
Pember enters the last week of the regular season leading the country in free throws made (202) and attempted (248). Pember also ranks in the top 15 nationally in points scored (9th – 589), defensive rebounds per game (10th – 7.48), blocks (10th – 67), blocks per game (14th – 2.31), and double-doubles (14th – 12).
Pember and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Charleston Southern at Kimmel Arena in the team's regular season home finale. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Buccaneers is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
