BIG SOUTH RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced on Monday that UNC Asheville's Drew Pember had been named the Big South Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the games played from January 23-29. It is the fourth time this season that Pember has earned this honor and the seventh time in his career.
Pember had a stellar week to help lead the Bulldogs to a pair of Big South victories over Presbyterian (88-80 in overtime) and Campbell (78-65). Pember began his week with a performance for the ages. The Knoxville, Tennessee native netted a school record 48 points, matched the single game school record by knocking down eight 3-pointers, and grabbed 12 rebounds in Asheville's win over Presbyterian. Pember's 48 points were the most points scored by a Division I player this season, the most scored by a Big South player in a regular season game, and the most points scored in a double-double in league history. Pember followed that outing up by scoring 13 points and adding five rebounds in the win at Campbell. Overall, Pember shot 56.7 percent from the field, 81.8 percent from 3-point range, and 94.7 percent from the free throw line.
Entering this week's action, Pember leads all Division I men's basketball players in free throws made (164) and attempted (194). He also ranks seventh in blocks (57), 10th in points scored (464), 14th in rebounds (220) in the nation.
Pember and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday when they welcome High Point to Kimmel Arena for another Big South clash. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Panthers is set for 7 p.m. on ESPNU. Tickets for Thursday's game can be purchased HERE.
