ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will be back in action Tuesday when it visits College of Charleston for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Cougars is set for 7 p.m. on FloFC.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs battled to a 2-2 tie in their Big South opener vs. Gardner-Webb on Saturday night. With Saturday's tie, Asheville is now 1-6-2 overall and 0-0-1 in Big South play.
Freshmen finding a way to score – Asheville's two leading scorers in 2022 are both freshmen in Sam Presser and Sam Pitts-Eckersall. Both Presser (Three goals, two assists) and Pitts-Eckersall (Four goals) have tallied eight points so far this season, which is tied for the third-most in the Big South. Only Campbell's Kerny Amiche (11 points) and Pablo Brimeux (9 points) of Gardner-Webb have tallied more points than the duo from Asheville.
Back-to-back ties for the Bulldogs – The Bulldogs battled out a pair of 2-2 ties against Wofford and Gardner-Webb in their last two matches. The back-to-back draws for Asheville are rare for the program as the last time it happened was back in 1996 when the Bulldogs played Liberty and Winthrop to draws in back-to-back contests.
Sharing is Caring – All four of Asheville's goals last week had assists attached to them. Thanks to these four assists, the Bulldogs are second in the Big South with 10 assists on the season. Campbell (16 assists) is the only other Big South team that has reached double figure assist totals this fall.
Non-Conference Note – Asheville will look to close out its non-conference schedule on a positive note on Tuesday. The Bulldogs own a non-conference win over Georgia Southern (5-3) on the season. If Asheville knocks off the Cougars, it'll mark the first time since 2018 that the Bulldogs have won multiple non-conference games in a season.
About the Cougars – College of Charleston enters Tuesday's match with the Bulldogs with a 2-3-2 overall record and a 2-1-1 mark in CAA play. A player to watch for the Cougars on Tuesday is Leonardo D'Ambrosio, who has tallied at least one point in each of his last four matches.
Series Rewind vs. College of Charleston – The Bulldogs are 0-6-1 all-time against College of Charleston. One of the Cougars' six wins came last season at Greenwood Field by a score of 5-3. Tuesday will mark the first time Asheville will have played at College of Charleston since 1991.
