08.31.2022 | Women's Volleyball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team swept the Lees-McRae Bobcats (25-18, 25-11, 25-20) Wednesday in non-conference play, bringing their record to 2-3.
Stat Standouts - Outside hitter Kat Cruser continued to lead the Bulldogs, totaling a match-high 12 points, collecting nine kills, three aces and four digs in an all-around performance.
First Set - The first set started off neck-and-neck as both teams traded the lead until the Bulldogs settled in with the score tied 11-11. From there, the Bulldogs refused to give the lead back, scoring three times in a row, and only allowing seven for the remainder of the set, claiming a 25-18 set victory. The first set was the sloppiest of the three, with Asheville scoring only 13 points off kills and blocks and Lees-McRae scoring only 10. All other points were scored through errors.Â
Second Set - Asheville came out swinging in the second set, holding the lead for the entire time. The Bulldogs put up a match-leading .292 hitting percentage in this set and made only a few attack errors. The story of this set was decided by errors again as the Bobcats gave up 12 points on attack errors and could not wrestle the momentum away from the Bulldogs.
Third Set - In the final set of the match, Lees-McRae started out hot off a pair of blocks and a kill by Destiny Holley putting the Bulldogs in a 4-0 deficit early. From there, Asheville plugged along, slowly working their way back to tie the game at 11-11. As stated before, Makenzi Searcy took over for the set for the Bulldogs, throwing down six kills on a .556 hitting percentage.
Up Next - The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Greensboro to face Georgia Southern as part of the UNC Greensboro Tournament, where Asheville will play a trio of non-conference matchups.
