Asheville preps for a rivalry matchup vs. Western Carolina on Thursday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will be back in action on Thursday when it welcomes mountain rival Western Carolina to Greenwood Field. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs notched a 6-0 win over South Carolina State last Sunday at Greenwood Field. With the victory, Asheville improves to 2-1-1 on the season.
Goals Galore – The six goals scored by the Bulldogs on Sunday were the most in a single match for Asheville since September 4, 2015 when it blanked Alabama A&M, 6-0. With the six-goal outburst, Asheville now ranks 13th nationally with 13 goals scored in the 2022 campaign.
Gardner near the top of the nation's scoring charts – Sophomore Taylor Gardner scored two goals and added an assist in Sunday's win over South Carolina State to bring her point total to 11 on the season. Gardner's 11 points are tied for second in the nation behind only Sammie Sofonia from Southern Utah who has 12. Furthermore, Gardner leads the Big South in goals scored (four) and is second in assists (three).
Strong Start for Asheville – The 2-1-1 start for the Bulldogs in 2022 is one of the better starts the program has had recently. The last time Asheville started 2-1-1 or better through four matches was back in 2015 when it won three of its first four matches.
About Western Carolina – Western Carolina will bring a 0-1-3 mark with it to Asheville on Thursday. WCU has logged ties against Mount St. Mary's (1-1), Navy (0-0), and UT Martin (0-0) with its lone setback to No. 18 Clemson, 6-0.
