Finished program-best 6th place at Big South Championship
ASHEVILLE N.C. – Finishing a program-best sixth place individually at the Big South Women's Golf Championship, Venecia Zaia has been named the April "Bulldog of the Month" presented by Zaxby's. This is Zaia's second consecutive Bulldog of the Month award, claiming the honor in March.
Rounding out her sophomore campaign in emphatic fashion, Zaia's sixth-place finish at The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor in Greenwood, South Carolina bested Taylor Hinson's T-11 finish at the 2018 Big South Championship. Additionally, the Murrieta, California native totaled an 8-over-par 224 in three rounds, matching teammate Madyson Gold (2021) for the program's lowest three-round total in Big South Tournament history.
Not only did Zaia's performance help lift Asheville to its highest team finish ever in the Big South Championship (4th), but it helped her secure the program's first all-conference honor for a non-freshman, being named All-Big South Honorable Mention and to the All-Academic team. In all, Zaia finished the 2021-22 season with two top-10 finishes, five top-15 finishes and seven top-30 finishes.
