ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The spring semester is beginning to wind down, but April had no shortage of big moments for UNC Asheville Athletics and its student-athletes. Make sure to look at the nominees and supporting information below and vote for your April "Bulldog of the Month" presented by Zaxby's! Voting will end Monday, May 2 at 11:59 a.m.

April Bulldog of the Month Poll

Baseball - Dylan Bacot - Junior - Fayetteville, N.C.

  • Hit .412 with 19 RBI and 11 runs scored last month
  • Was named the Big South Player of the Week on April 25
  • Picked up at least one hit in 12 of the 14 games played and drove in at least one run in nine games in April, including a season-high five runs in Asheville's 25-8 win over Radford
Women's Golf – Venecia Zaia – Sophomore – Murrieta, California
  • 6th-place finish at Big South Championship is best finish in program history at event
  • Total score of 224 tied Madyson Gold's score of 224 for lowest in the Big South
  • Earned first All-Conference honor in program history with Honorable Mention, All-Academic status
  • Finished 2021-22 season with two Top-10 finishes, five Top-15 finishes and seven Top-30 finishes
Men's Tennis – Harry Thursfield – Junior – Twickenham, United Kingdom
  • 2-1 in singles action, 2-0 at the No. 2 flight
  • 1-1 at No. 2 doubles
  • Named All-Big South First Team Singles with 11-3 individual record
  • Both victories came in straight sets with lone loss being pushed to three
  • Teamed up with Quinn Fender to top Hampton's No. 2 duo 6-0
Women's Tennis – Lize Alet Morkel – Sr. – Western Cape, South Africa 
  • Named Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year and First Team Singles
  • Five combined wins throughout April
  • Pulled off a 7-5 comeback down 4-1 in the quarterfinals with Taylor Love to clinch the doubles point against Presbyterian 
Men's Track & Field - Jalen Anderson - Sophomore - Monroe, N.C.
  • Broke the school's outdoor record in the 100-meter dash not once but twice at the Catamount Classic with times of 10.45 and 10.35
  • Also rebroke the program's outdoor record in the 200-meter dash (20.97) at the Georgia Tech Invitational
  • Was also on the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay teams that broke the school's outdoor records in those events with times of 40.49 and 3:13.50, respectively
Women's Track & Field - Claudia Prieto - Senior - Madrid, Spain
  • Was named the Big South's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week on April 6
  • Has tallied Asheville's top marks in the 100-meter dash, long and triple jumps
  • Set new outdoor school record in the long jump with a leap of 6.09-meters
