Bulldogs battle but fall on the road at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team battled well in its final road matchup of the regular season at High Point, but it was the Panthers that came away with the victory, 74-62.
Nadiria Evans led the way for the Bulldogs as she nearly achieved a triple-double with 22 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Jordaynia Ivie also finished the night in double figures with 10 points, while Kai Carter and Abigail Wilson chipped in nine and eight points, respectively.
There was not a ton of separation between the Panthers and Bulldogs in the early going on Wednesday. It looked like High Point may be the first team to gain a little bit of breathing room after a made layup made the score, 27-18, with 5:47 to go in the first half. Asheville, however, shot over 50 percent from the field in the second quarter and knocked a trio of critical 3-pointers to get the deficit back down to four points, 35-31, at halftime.
The Bulldogs kept at it in the second half to try and catch the Panthers. On multiple occasions, the Bulldogs closed the gap to one possession. The last time Asheville got within one possession came with 5:06 to go in regulation after a layup from Evans. Even with the Bulldogs circling, High Point was steadfast. HPU got enough production from the field and free throw line (12-for-12 in the final five minutes of the game) down the stretch to finish off the 74-62 win.
Asheville will wrap up its regular season on Saturday when it welcomes Charleston Southern to Kimmel Arena. Tip-off for that matchup is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
