Men’s Basketball hosts ‘Shop with the Dogs’ Event

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – For the first time since 2019, the "Shop with the Dogs" event returned on Monday night.
UNC Asheville men's basketball helped over 40 children shop for the holidays at Target on River Hills Road.
Each child was paired with an UNC Asheville student-athlete and were given a $125 gift card to spend on themselves and their families in the spirit of the holidays. In addition to shopping, the children were able to enjoy dinner and see Santa Claus who made a special appearance as well.
"It was a great evening," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Mike Morrell. "It's always one of my favorite nights of the year. Our guys get way more out of it than the kids do. It's special to watch our players be involved in it and do something outside of themselves."
Members of the UNC Asheville athletic department, women's basketball team, and friends of Bulldog athletics also volunteered to help make this event possible.
"It's hard to describe the feeling," said Dean Gabrelcik about the evening. "Seeing people smile and giving back to kids who may not be able to get what they want for the holidays, there's nothing better than that."
