Bulldogs fall on the road at No. 10 Arkansas
12.21.2022 | Men's Basketball
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team finished up its non-conference schedule on Wednesday at No. 10 Arkansas. Asheville ended up falling to the tenth-ranked Razorbacks by a score of 85-51.
Tajion Jones led the way for Asheville on Wednesday netting a team-high 14 points on a 6-for-9 day from the field. Jamon Battle added 10 points of his own to round out the point leaders for Asheville. Amadou Sylla led the way for the Bulldogs on the glass totaling eight rebounds to go with three blocks in 13 minutes of action.
After the Bulldogs started the scoring on Wednesday with a layup by Trent Stephney, the Razorbacks were quick to answer. Arkansas turned 11 Bulldog turnovers into 19 points at the other end. Fueled in part by Asheville's turnovers, the Razorbacks shot 62.5 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes and they led the Bulldogs by 20 points, 44-24, at the half.
The Bulldogs fared a bit better in the second half. Jones started to knock down some shots as he scored nine of his 14 points of the night in the final 20 minutes. Thanks to Jones and the rest of the Bulldogs, Asheville was able to put together a stretch of 7-for-10 shooting from field around the midway point of the half. However, the early lead that the Razorbacks built proved too large to overcome as they finished off the 85-51 win over the Bulldogs.
Asheville, now 8-5 on the season, will be back in action on December 29 when it returns to Kimmel Arena to open Big South play against Radford. Tip-off for that contest is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
