Swimming & Diving readies for a pair of mid-season invitationals

11.16.2022 | Women's Swimming & Diving

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team will compete in a pair of mid-season invitationals in the coming days. First, the Bulldog diving squad will take part in the Wolfpack Diving Invite in Greensboro, N.C. on November 17-19. The swimming team, meanwhile, will head to Charlotte, N.C. for the three-day Fall Frenzy Invitational on November 18-20.

Last Time Out – Asheville was last in action on November 5 when it took on Gardner-Webb and Davidson in a double dual meet. The Bulldogs defeated both of those teams (236-48 & 155-145) to improve to 4-0 on the season. Furthermore, it marked the program's first ever victory over Davidson.

CCSA Diver of the Week – Following the double dual meet against Gardner-Webb and Davidson, junior Jade Canady was named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association's (CCSA) Diver of the Week on November 8. Canady shattered the program records in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with point totals of 243.83 and 241.65, respectively, to earn this honor.

A fine fall so far – A 4-0 start and the record-breaking outings from Canady have not been the only highlights for Asheville this fall. Delaney Carlton (Swimmer) and Morgan Coughlen (Diver) swept the CCSA weekly awards earlier this season, while the trio of Anna Marcotti (100 Free – 52.48), Beatrice Cocconcelli (200 Breast – 2:22.89, 100 Breast – 1:06.14, 200 IM – 2:08.51), and Riley Edmundson (200 Fly – 2:03.03) have logged some of the fastest times in their given events already this season.

Notes from Coaches – "We have the opportunity to compete with some of the best programs in the NCAA and alongside some Olympic-caliber divers," said UNC Asheville Head Diving Coach Matthew Macon. "We are excited to put our hard work and new dives onto the boards and build upon the scores and success we have already found this season."

"The Fall Frenzy is our first opportunity to compete in an invitational this season and we're excited to see some great racing," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "It will be a competitive meet with very fast teams pushing each other. We hope to execute learned race strategies and practice fine tuning techniques we've been working on all semester."

How to Follow - Both meets will have live results on the meet mobile app. Recaps each day will be posted on uncabulldogs.com.
