Men’s Soccer closes out its season with a home match vs. USC Upstate

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will wrap up its 2022 season on Wednesday when it hosts USC Upstate at Greenwood Field. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Spartans is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs rallied from an early deficit to down Radford by a score of 2-1 last Saturday. The victory, which was Asheville's first league win of the season, improved the Bulldogs' overall record to 2-10-4 and 1-3-3 in Big South play.
Honored by the Big South – Thanks to his play in Saturday's win, Brendan Herb was named the Big South's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Herb picked up an assist on the goal that tied the match at 1-1 before netting the game-winner on a penalty shot in the 90th-minute of play.
Defending Greenwood Field – Asheville will look to defend Greenwood Field on Wednesday as it wraps up its 2022 season. The Bulldogs, who are 1-4-3 at home this fall, have been led in home matches by freshmen Sam Pitts-Eckersall (five goals) and Sam Presser (three goals, three assists) in their eight home contests.
About the Spartans – USC Upstate will come to Asheville on Wednesday sporting a record of 5-5-5 overall and a 3-1-3 ledger in Big South play. The Spartans have played well recently as they have lost just one match since mid-September. Individually, a player to watch for Upstate is its primary goalkeeper Luca Bulfon. Bulfon leads all Big South keepers in saves made (68) and his save total ranks 15th nationally.
Series Rewind vs. USC Upstate – Upstate holds the edge in the all-time series against Asheville (7-3-1). The Bulldogs will be looking for their first win in the series since 2019 when they knocked off the Spartans, 1-0.
