ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team took the lead early with a goal from Lindie Clark in Saturday's match against Campbell. However, the Camels were able to tie it up and score two goals in the second half to take the victory, 3-2. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 4-9-3 on the season.
The Bulldogs started strong at the beginning of Saturday's match, with Solveig Schlitter flipping a pass over a Campbell defender to find an awaiting Clark, who found the back of the net for the ninth minute goal to put Asheville on top, 1-0. The senior, playing her last game at Greenwood Field, scored her second goal of the 2022 season.Â
Â
Throughout the match, Campbell put pressure on the Asheville back line and the goalkeeper Bronwyn Luitwieler. The Bulldog defense held up for the most part, only allowing nine shots on goal out of the 30 taken by the Camels, with Luitweiler collecting six saves of her own.
The Bulldogs continued to challenge the Campbell defense. Asheville broke through in the 71st minute, when a corner kick found Clark in the box who quickly touched it to Kaiya Boyd, who hit a bending shot with her left foot to tie the game, 2-2.Â
Â
Asheville, now with a record of 2-5-1 in the Big South, will finish out the regular season at Presbyterian next Wednesday in a match scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
