10.26.2022 | Women's Soccer
CLINTON, S.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team capped off its 2022 season on Wednesday evening, falling narrowly to Presbyterian, 1-0.Â
There were not a ton of scoring chances between the Bulldogs in the first 45 minutes of action. Asheville put up three shots against the Presbyterian defense, including an early strike from Azalea Mihailovich that ended up going slightly off target.
Brooklyn Scythes took the only shot on goal of the night for Asheville in the waning seconds of the first half, barely glancing off the goalkeeper's glove as time expired.
The Blue Hose had many more opportunities in the first half, firing off seven shots on goal. The goalkeeper Bronwyn Luitwieler played superb, saving all seven shots and making UNC Asheville history in her final game as a Bulldog. With her eight total saves on the night, Luitwieler moved to eighth all-time in program history for saves with 129. She passed Tracy Brainard, who previously held the eighth all-time spot with 125 when she set it in 1993.
Â
The Bulldogs end the season with a record of 4-10-3 and a Big South conference record of 2-6-1.

The second half was dominated by Presbyterian, who kept control of the ball in Asheville territory for nearly the entire time. Eventually the Blue Hose leading scorer, Sloan Spees, snuck a goal into a tight angle past Luitwieler to take the lead, 1-0. There would be a few more chances for Asheville, including a thwarted fast break attempt by Solvieg Schlitter, but the Bulldogs could not mount a comeback.Bronwyn Luitwieler makes another GREAT save for the Bulldogs! With her 6th save on the night, the senior moves up to 8th all-time in program history!!#ALLinAVL pic.twitter.com/GgQy0j04ro
