ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team dropped a three-set contest to High Point on Friday night at the Justice Center (25-21, 25-13, 25-18).
Stat Standouts – Asheville's offense was led on Friday night by the tandem of Kat Cruser and Makenzi Searcy as both players finished with seven kills. Defensively, Giulia Rodrigues led the way for the Bulldogs totaling a team-high 14 digs in the three-set affair.
Set 1 – High Point jumped out to an early 7-1 lead on the Bulldogs to open Friday's match. The Panther lead grew to as many as 10 points at one juncture thanks in part to five total blocks. However, Asheville rallied to get back within two points, 23-21, late in the frame after a kill by Cruser. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, High Point tallied back-to-back points to finish off the set, 25-21.
Set 2 – Like in the first set, High Point jumped out to an early lead on the Bulldogs. The Panthers had a five-point advantage before the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with a kill from Ryann Allison. With all these factors working together, the Panthers took the second, 25-13, to go up 2-0 on the Bulldogs.
Set 3 – The third and final set of Friday's match proved to be the most competitive of the night. Asheville remained a point or two from tying the score for most of the stanza. A kill from Chloe Conroy made the score 17-16 High Point. However, the Panthers were able to put together a 4-0 run to break the Bulldogs' momentum. Even after Lexy Cole broke the Panther streak with a kill, it proved too late to make up the deficit as High Point finished off the match, 25-18.
Next Up – Asheville, now 3-14 on the season, will be back in action on Saturday when it welcomes Campbell to the Justice Center for another Big South matchup. The first serve between the Bulldogs and Camels is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
