Bulldogs fall in three sets to Campbell

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Campbell (25-13, 25-23, 25-12) Saturday afternoon at the Justice Center.
Stat Standouts – Offensively, Kat Cruser led the way for the Bulldogs with 11 kills against the Camels. It marked her seventh double-digit kill match of the 2022 campaign. Lexy Cole (six kills, .417 hitting percentage) and Chloe Conroy (five kills, .455 hitting percentage) both had efficient offensive performances as well. Defensively, Conroy added 11 digs and Giulia Rodrigues added a team-high 13 digs to help the cause.
Set 1 – Campbell started quickly against the Bulldogs to begin Saturday's contest. The Camels scored nine of the first 11 points to put Asheville in an early hole. Cole and Cruser combined for six kills on nine attacks, but Campbell collectively attacked at a .448 clip to fuel a 25-13 set win.
Set 2 – Asheville made some key adjustments in the second set to keep the score much tighter. The score was tied at nine different points and there were three lead changes in the second frame alone. Bahar Kurtulus tallied a kill to tie the score at 23-23 late in the stanza. Campbell, however, notched the next two points to win the set, 25-23.
Set 3 – Campbell continued its hot-hitting in the third and final set. Overall, the Camels attacked the Bulldog defense 36 times in the third and ended with 16 kills and one error for a .417 hitting percentage. Campbell would save its best for last though as it closed the set and match on a 9-0 run to make the final score, 25-12.
Next Up – The next match for the Bulldogs will be next Friday when they visit Radford for another Big South matchup. First serve between Asheville and the Highlanders is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
