ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After four consecutive road matches, the UNC Asheville volleyball team will return home to the Justice Center this weekend to host High Point on Friday and Campbell on Saturday. Friday's match, which is also the team's annual 'Dig Pink' game, is scheduled for 6 p.m. start time, while Saturday's is slated to get underway at 2 p.m. Both contests will be on ESPN+.
Friday night's match is Dig Pink – As mentioned earlier, Friday night's match is the team's annual Dig Pink match where it helps raise awareness for breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match. You can also donate to help the cause HERE.
Bulldog Big Blue Weekend – Both matches this weekend will be a part of the 'Bulldog Big Blue Weekend'. At the end of the weekend, a lucky student will win the grand prize of LED HD Smart TV. To learn more about the Bulldog Big Blue Weekend, click HERE.
Last Time Out – Asheville battled hard but ultimately fell in five sets on the road at Charleston Southern last Saturday (25-19, 25-17, 17-25, 13-25, 15-13). With the loss, the Bulldogs are now 3-13 overall and 0-6 in Big South action.
Finderle finding another gear – A definite bright spot recently for Asheville has been the play of Nina Finderle. Finderle was spectacular against Charleston Southern on Saturday as she posted a team-high 12 kills on 18 attempts with no errors for a .667 hitting percentage. Finderle's hitting percentage of .667 was the second highest ever by a Bulldog in a five-set match.
Home Sweet Home – Asheville hopes that its return home will mean good things as two of its three wins on the season have come at the Justice Center. Junior libero Giulia Rodrigues has been particularly good at home averaging nearly five digs per set (4.71) in eight home matches.
About the Opponents – High Point will come to Asheville with a 12-8 overall record and a 5-1 mark in Big South play. A player to watch for the Panthers is Sydney Palazzolo. Palazzolo ranks second in the Big South in points scored (302.0).
Campbell, meanwhile, is the Big South's lone unbeaten team in league play with a 6-0 mark in conference play. The strength of the Camels lies in their defense as they 23rd nationally in opponent hitting percentage (.165) and 11th in total blocks (182.0).
Series Rewind vs. Opponents – The Bulldogs have historically held the edge against both the Panthers and Camels. Asheville is 32-19 all-time against High Point and 19-13 against Campbell. However, the Bulldogs will look for their first win against High Point since 2016 and their first victory over Campbell since 2018.
