Men’s Tennis to host N.C. Central, Tusculum

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team returns to action this weekend, hosting North Carolina Central on Saturday and Tusculum on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club.
Beginning Anew
The Bulldogs opened up the season this past Tuesday, sweeping Montreat to the tune of 7-0. The Bulldogs took all three doubles matches 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 before moving onto singles competition. Jon Brann Reid and Harry Thursfield took care of the No. 1 and No. 3 flights 6-2, 6-2, while Leo Bierbaum, Sirawit Daosaengsawang and Quinn Fender clinched their matches on second-set tiebreakers.
A look at the Opposition
North Carolina Central enters Saturday 0-2 on the young season, but has faced stiff competition in UNCG and Duke. Senior Miles Clark picked up the lone point for the Eagles, beating Duke's Connor Krug 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 at the No. 1 flight.
Tusculum has yet to compete this semester, but is coming off a 2020-21 season in which it went 17-4 including 9-2 in the South Atlantic Conference (DII). Frank Bonacia is the leading returner for the Pioneers, going 16-3 last season, with a 10-1 record at the No. 3 flight.
Attendance Update
At this time, attendance at all Asheville tennis matches is limited to students with a valid OneCard. All attendees must show proof of vaccination and wear a mask at all times.
