CHAMPIONS AGAIN! Henry Patten '19 Captures Second Wimbledon Gentlemen's Doubles Title

LONDON - UNC Asheville Men's Tennis alum Henry Patten '19 and doubles partner Harri Heliovaara captured their second Gentlemen's Doubles title at Wimbledon on Saturday (July 11).
 
The pair entered the tournament off an appearance in the French Open final as the top seed and the No. 1 doubles team in the world.
 
The duo began play with a 7-5, 6-2 first round victory over Terence Atmane and Luca Sanchez of France, before grinding out a 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (10-7) victory in the second round over Mac Kiger and Patrik Trhac of the United States. The two then dispatched Adam Pavlasek and Patrik Rikl of the Czech Republic 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (10-6) in the third round, before rallying past eight-seeds Guido Andreozzi (Aregentina)/Manuel Guinard (France) 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-6) in the quarterfinals. They punched their ticket to the finals with a 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (10-8) win over Thanasi Kokkinakis (Australia)/Aleksandar Kovakevic (USA) in the semifinals, before winning the title with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3) victory over six-seeded Mate Pavic (Croatia) and Marcelo Arevalo (El Salvador).

A 2019 graduate of UNC Asheville, Patten was an Intercollegiate Tennis Association ITA) All-American in doubles and a three-time Big South Conference Player of the Year. He was a four-time Big South Conference First Team All-Conference selection in singles play, and a three-time First Team All-Conference selection in doubles play. He was a seven-time Player of the Week selection, and a two-time Freshman of the Week selection. Patten also made an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Division I national tournament for both singles and doubles. Patten was also an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2019. He and Olli Nolan also won an Oracle ITA Fall National Championship in 2018.
