ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team will return to action for the first time in 2022 this weekend as it competes against Liberty and Campbell in a double dual meet in Lynchburg, Va. The meet will begin Friday at 6 p.m. and will resume on Saturday at 11 a.m. Fans can watch this weekend's meet via ESPN+.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs closed out the 2021 portion of their schedule in November with the swimmers competing at the Fall Frenzy Invitational and the divers taking part in the Liberty Invitational. Asheville recorded several record-breaking times at the Fall Frenzy and put an exclamation point at the end of its fall semester where it complied the best start in program history, 6-0.
Dual Domination – The 6-0 start by Asheville continues a fantastic streak by the program. The Bulldogs have not lost a dual meet in over a calendar year. Asheville's last setback came against Liberty in a meet on October 23, 2020. Since then, the Bulldogs are 10-0 and have secured stellar wins over ECU, Campbell, and UNC Wilmington during that stretch.
Fine first half by the Bulldogs – Success in 2021 can be found up and down the Bulldog roster to help fuel their undefeated start. An incredible eight school records were broken during the fall semester to go with nine freshman records. About the Opponents – This weekend should provide the Bulldog some good competition ahead of next month's Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships as both Liberty and Campbell will be in the field. Liberty, who is hosting this weekend's meet, is undefeated (3-0) in dual meets, while Campbell brings a 4-3 record with it to Lynchburg.
Series Rewind vs. Opponents – Asheville is not a stranger to either Liberty or Campbell as they have faced off against each other several times in recent years. The Bulldogs notched their first ever win over the Camels earlier this season, 152-109. As for the series against Liberty, the Flames have won each of the previous six head-to-head meetings including the matchup mentioned earlier last October in Asheville, 162-127.
