CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team continued its fantastic start to its 2021-22 season on the final day of the Fall Frenzy Invitational on Sunday. Over the last three days in Charlotte, the Bulldogs had many record-breaking performances and placed third among the 10 team field with a point total of 1,378.
Success started right away for Asheville during the morning session on Sunday. 15 Bulldogs qualified for the finals in their given events later in the day. Highlighting the prelim session on Sunday were swims by Nora Segurola Larrinaga and Riley Edmundson. Larrinaga broke the program's record in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:00.69, which broke the previous best time of 2:00.97 held by Stephanie Smith set back in 2017.
Edmundson, meanwhile, continued her fantastic weekend in Charlotte, setting new school and freshman records in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:02.09. Edmundson's morning swim bested the previous record times, both of which were held by Catherine Allen (2:02.13, 2:04.12).
"I couldn't be more proud of this team," said Edmundson. "The moment I got here, I knew I made the right choice. The energy we have is contagious, and our performances show that. I wholeheartedly believe this team is something special, and I cannot wait to see what's next!"
The sensational swims kept coming in for Asheville in the evening session. Larrinaga (1:59.29) and Edmundson (2:01.75) once again cut time in their respective events to break the records they set earlier in the day. The evening 200-yard backstroke also saw freshman Grace Adams establish a new benchmark for Bulldog freshmen in the event clocking in at 2:01.89.

"That's definitely the most fun I've ever had racing," Larrinaga said afterward. "It was so inspiring seeing all the hard work pay off, and it's amazing seeing my teammates do so well. It just kept us all rolling on! Can't wait for conference, excited to see what we can do."
Asheville will not compete in another meet for the rest of 2021. The Bulldogs will return to the pool on January 21-22 when they take on conference rivals Campbell and Liberty.
