Women’s Basketball begins a three-game homestand Tuesday vs. High Point

01.17.2022 | Women's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will begin a three-game homestand on Tuesday when it welcomes High Point to Kimmel Arena. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Panthers is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.

Last Time Out – Asheville snapped a three-game losing skid on the road Sunday as it downed Charleston Southern by a score of 59-47. With the victory, the Bulldogs are now 7-9 overall and 2-3 in league play.

Evans makes history in Sunday's win – A key in Asheville's win on Sunday was the play of Nadiria Evans. The fifth-year senior scored a team-high 27 points to go with six rebounds, five assists, and seven steals. Evans' seven steals were one shy of tying the school record for steals in a game. Furthermore, by taking the court on Sunday, Evans has now played in 135 games in her time as a Bulldog, which is a new Big South record.

Carter continues stellar play
 – Kai Carter also played a significant role in the Bulldogs getting back into the win column with a 17-point, 10-rebound day against the Buccaneers. Carter knocked down a trio of 3-pointers in the contest, bringing her season to 28. Only Gardner-Webb's Lauren Bevis (38 3-pointers) has made more shots from beyond the arc than Carter among Big South players in 2021-22.

Hoping for some Home Cooking
 – After playing just six of its first 16 games of the season at Kimmel Arena, the Bulldogs are set to enjoy a three-game homestand beginning with Tuesday's contest with High Point. Since the beginning of the 2018-19 season, the Bulldogs are 30-18 when they play at home. During this stretch, Asheville will also take on Presbyterian (Saturday at 2 p.m.) and North Carolina A&T (Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.).

About High Point
 – High Point, which is coming off a season where it won both the regular season and tournament championships in the Big South, brings a 4-10 overall record (1-2 in conference) with it to Asheville on Tuesday. High Point's two strengths so far in 2021-22 have been its 3-point shooting and taking care of the basketball. HPU ranks 51st nationally in 3-pointers made per game (7.7) and 10th in the country in the fewest turnovers per game (11.9).

Series Rewind vs. High Point
 – Historically, High Point has held the edge in the Bulldogs, winning 40 of the 57 matchups. However, Asheville and High Point split the two meetings last season and have done so in each of the past four seasons. Additionally, the Bulldogs have come away with the victory in the previous two games between the two programs at Kimmel Arena.

How to Follow - As mentioned earlier, Tuesday's game will air on ESPN+Live stats will also be available for following, or fans can tune to Rewind 100.3 to hear the radio call from Mike Gore.
