UNC Asheville-Gardner-Webb Men’s Basketball game to be broadcast on ESPNU

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – ESPNU has selected the Gardner-Webb at UNC Asheville men's basketball contest as its second Big South Wildcard broadcast of the 2021-22 season, it was announced today by the Big South Conference office. The game will move from its current Wednesday, Jan. 26 date to Thursday, Jan. 27 and will tip at 7:00 p.m. inside Kimmel Arena in Asheville, N.C.
The match-up will mark the second nationally-televised meeting between the squads, as the first was Feb. 23, 2017 on ESPNU and won by the home-standing Runnin' Bulldogs, 81-76. It will be Gardner-Webb's eighth appearance in the Big South's ESPNU Wildcard series, and 13th for Asheville.
The Bulldogs most recently appeared on ESPNU on January 13 when they faced Winthrop in Rock Hill. The last time Asheville hosted a game on ESPNU was February 22, 2018, when it defeated Winthrop 89-75 to clinch a share of the Big South Regular-Season Title.
This is the ninth year of the Big South's ESPNU Wildcard series, which again features six Thursday broadcasts –- Jan. 13 (at Winthrop 86, UNC Asheville 80 in overtime), Jan. 27 (Gardner-Webb at UNC Asheville), Feb. 3, Feb. 10, Feb. 17 and Feb. 24 -- that are selected 14 days in advance. A total of 36 games have been played in the series that began in 2013-14, and while the home teams are 25-11, the 36 games have been decided by an average of 8.31 points, with 23 of those being decided by single-digits -- including four in overtime.
