Women’s Basketball preps for a road matchup at Charleston Southern on Sunday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following some schedule adjustments, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team will be back in action Sunday when it visits longtime conference foe Charleston Southern. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Buccaneers is set for 2 p.m. and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville scored its most points in a game since early December, but it proved not to be enough as Longwood downed the Bulldogs, 76-72, last Saturday at Kimmel Arena. The Bulldogs are now 6-9 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
Schedule Updates – Sunday's game between Charleston Southern and Asheville was originally scheduled for Saturday but was pushed back a day. Asheville's other two previous postponements also have new dates. Last Tuesday's game at Gardner-Webb will now be played on February 7, and the earlier postponed home game against Hampton has been moved to February 10. Nadiria nears records – By appearing in Saturday's game against Longwood, Asheville's Nadiria Evans played in her 134th career game as a Bulldog. The 134 games played by Evans are not only a UNC Asheville record, but it is also tied for the most in the history of the Big South with Radford's Jen Falconer. Furthermore, Evans needs to make 25 and attempt 26 more free throws to become Asheville's all-time leader in both categories.
Carter continues stellar play – A highlight on Saturday was the play of Kai Carter. Carter nearly notched her second straight double-double scoring 23 points to go with nine rebounds. Carter's 23 points marked a new season-high. After this effort, Carter ranks eighth in the Big South, averaging 13.5 points per game and third in the league with 25 3-pointers made.
Fine effort offensively - Asheville's 72 points scored in Saturday's game vs. Longwood marked the most that the Bulldogs have scored in a game since December 1 vs. Warren Wilson. Furthermore, Asheville shot 43.9 percent from the field on Saturday, which is the highest shooting percentage for the Bulldogs vs. a Division I opponent this season.
About Charleston Southern – Charleston Southern enters Sunday's matchup with a record of 1-14 overall and 1-3 in league play. CSU's lone victory thus far came on December 29 against Winthrop, 67-54.
Series Rewind vs. Charleston Southern – There is plenty of history to draw from in the all-time series between the Bulldogs and Buccaneers. The two longtime members of the Big South have clashed 74 times since the 1985-86 season. In 2020-21, the Bulldogs and Buccaneers split the two matchups in Charleston with CSU coming out on top in the first contest, 67-63, but Asheville rebounded to take the next game, 65-58.
