09.25.2021 | Women's Volleyball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to High Point (25-14, 25-12, 25-18) on Saturday afternoon at the Justice Center.
Set 1 – The beginning of the opening frame was tightly contested. An ace from Asheville freshman Brandy Kishbaugh made the score 13-12 High Point. After that ace, however, the Panthers seemed to find another gear as they scored 12 of the following 14 points to take the first frame, 25-14. A big key in HPU's run was its work upfront, as it logged five blocks in the opening stanza.
Set 2 – Riding the momentum from the first set, High Point jumped out to an early lead in the second. HPU scored six of the first seven points in the frame and nine of the first 12 points to seize momentum early. The Bulldogs chipped into the Panther lead a bit to get the deficit back down to four at 10-6. HPU used a balanced and efficient offensive attack to build its lead back up before eventually taking the second, 25-12. Overall, High Point had five different players register two kills or more in the second and posted a team hitting percentage of .379 with 15 kills.
Set 3 – Facing a 3-0 defeat on their home floor, the Bulldogs put together their best set of the match in the third. The tandem of Molly Hackett and Peyton McClinton each posted three kills in the frame to lead Asheville. Despite these outings by Hackett and McClinton, High Point kept things rolling in the third, attacking at a .297 mark to go with three total blocks and three aces to help it seal the 3-0 victory, 25-18.
Next Up – Asheville will hit the road for the first time in Big South play next week as it visits Campbell on Friday before traveling to Hampton on Saturday.
