Women’s Tennis to host Emily McNall Classic

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After opening its fall season, the UNC Asheville women's tennis team returns home to host the Emily McNall Classic this weekend (September 25-26). The Tournament will be held at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown on Saturday and Sunday.
New Beginnings
The Bulldogs competed in their first tournament of the season this past weekend, opening up play at the Elon Fall Invitational. Lize Alet Morkel had a strong start, winning all three of her singles matches to take the Gold Bracket in the East. Like Morkel, Beatrice Faureng was victorious in her bracket, teaming up with Kendall Byers as the duo won the Powell Bracket draw. Freshman Ari Seigel and sophomore Linge Steenkamp teamed up to win their first two doubles matches, falling 8-5 in the Gold Bracket final.
Scouting the Opponents
The Emily McNall Classic will feature UNC Asheville, Montreat, Presbyterian and Western Carolina. Montreat College competed this past weekend in the NAIA Women's Southeast ITA Regional Championships. Freshman Stephanie Petit captured the singles regional championship, teaming up with Valeria Quiceno Ibarguen to grab the doubles title.
Presbyterian has yet to compete this fall season and went 5-13 this past spring. The Blue Hose did get the better of UNC Asheville when the teams met in April, winning 6-1, with Rosie Dickson winning her match in two sets.
Like Presbyterian, Western Carolina hasn't played since spring, going 9-9 overall, topping UNC Asheville 5-2 in February. In that match, Lize Alet Morkel won in three sets while the Bulldogs won two out of three doubles.
