Women’s soccer opens Big South season at Gardner-Webb Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will open up its Fall 2021 season on Saturday, visiting Gardner-Webb for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
Righting the Ship
The Bulldogs have played better recently, going 1-1-1 in their last three matchups. Asheville tied Indiana State courtesy of a Kaiya Boyd goal, while Andy McNab notched his first career win, topping a strong Citadel squad 1-0 after a Lillian Morrison volley. Most recently, however, Asheville dropped a contest 2-0 to Davidson. While the goalkeepers continue to split time, Courtney O'Malley snagged six saves in her last start, propelling Asheville to the victory over The Citadel.
Scouting Gardner-Webb
The Runnin' Bulldogs went 2-6 in non-conference play, most recently falling to Clemson 4-0. Gardner-Webb played three common opponents with the Bulldogs in Davidson (L, 1-3), The Citadel (L, 1-3) and Western Carolina (L, 0-3). The two wins for Gardner-Webb came against Jacksonville State (1-0) and Alabama State (1-0). Three Runnin' Bulldogs have found the back of the net this season, with Maddie Turlington scoring twice. Katelyn Kellogg has gotten the majority of the minutes in net for Gardner-Webb, racking up 68 saves so far.
Series History
All-time, Gardner-Webb leads the series 9-4-2 and have protected their home field against Asheville, going 7-1-1 in Boiling Springs. When the two teams met in the spring, it was the Bulldogs who protected their home field, winning 4-2.
