Women’s soccer hosts Davidson on Sunday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team caps off its five-game home stand on Sunday when it welcomes Davidson to town for a 2:00 p.m. kick.
Breaking through
UNC Asheville was able to claim its first victory of the season on Thursday evening, defeating a strong Citadel squad 1-0. After a scoreless first half, freshman Lillian Morrison ripped a volley in the 64th that lifted the Bulldogs to their first win of the season, giving first-year head coach Andy McNab his first career victory. Courtney O'Malley was strong in net, picking up six saves including a game-saver in the 68th that she tipped over the crossbar. Asheville registered season highs in both shots (15) and shots on goal in the win (9).
Scouting Davidson
The Wildcats have had an even season so far, going 3-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 on the road. Two of Davidson's wins came over Big South opponents (Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian), while tying USC Upstate 0-0. Five players have scored thus far, with Aleia Gisolfi-McCready finding the back of the net twice and handing out an assist. Emma Nguyen has a pair of goals while Sophia Caruso has one goal and one assist. Mary Grace Bunch has played the majority of minutes in net, starting seven games and totaling 21 saves.
Series History
The teams have played just twice since 2011, with Davidson going 2-0 in those matches. The sides met in 2019 at Greenwood Field, as the Wildcats claimed victory 2-0.

Due to the prevalence of COVID in the greater Buncombe County Area, UNC Asheville Athletics asks spectators to please mask up and practice social distancing. We also encourage spectators to bring water and snacks as the concessions will be closed. Gates will open one hour prior to kickoff at the Field Drive entrance only.
