Men’s soccer falls at Wofford

09.11.2021 | Men's Soccer

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – The UNC Asheville Men's Soccer team traveled down the mountain to Spartanburg on Saturday evening, falling 3-0 to Wofford.

With the loss, Asheville drops to 1-4 on the season while Wofford improves an even 2-2. Leon Musial picks up five saves while the Bulldogs totaled seven shots on the night. The Terriers struck less than a minute into the game, added a second before the break and a third in the 79th.

"Although the score was 3-0, we were extremely good in a lot of areas tonight," said head coach Mick Giordano. "Wofford did well, converted their chances and certainly were well coached. Second half was brave and exceptional from the boys. They emptied their tanks and left everything out there. Unfortunately, the penalty we earned wasn't given as the game could have changed but that happens. We are proud of their effort and mentality though this beyond difficult road adventure. A long season still to go and this group will find ways to overcome these obstacles."

The Game at a Glance

How it Happened

The Terriers registered three straight shots before Andrew Rossetti fired the first chance for the Bulldogs in the 16th. In the 21st, Myers would double lead with his first goal of the season. As time winded down in the first, Asheville had a couple of chances, but would go into the break trailing by two.

The Bulldogs came out with more urgency in the second with a couple of early chances from Myles Edmondson and Conor Behan. In the 77th, Charlie Harris placed a shot on frame but Musial was there for his fifth save of the night. Not long after, Wofford added a third in the 79th to take the contest 3-0.
