Men’s soccer returns home, hosts College of Charleston Wednesday

09.14.2021 | Men's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After four straight road matches, the UNC Asheville men's soccer team returns home on Wednesday, hosting College of Charleston at 6:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field.

Back at Greenwood
After opening up with a 3-2 victory over Northern Kentucky, the Bulldogs hit the road for four straight contests, most recently falling short 3-0 at Wofford on Saturday evening. Asheville will look to get back to its winning ways on Wednesday after failing to score since the opener. Conor Behan and Jarron James found the back of the net in that one, as both continue to lead the attack for the Bulldogs, totaling 10 and seven shots, respectively. Greenwood was good to Asheville in the spring, going 3-1.

Scouting the Cougars
College of Charleston has played four contests this season, going 1-1-2 thus far. The Cougars have been stout defensively however, allowing just one total goal thus far, coming this past Saturday in a 1-0 loss to 19th-ranked James Madison. The Cougar's lone win came in their opener, topping South Carolina 1-0, with sophomore Kane Ritchie finding the back of the net. Cameron Smith has played all the minutes in goal, totaling 22 saves.

Series History
The sides have met just four times over the years, with College of Charleston taking all four matchups. The last time the teams met was in 2018 in the UNC Wilmington Classic, as the Cougars scored in the 74th to take the contest 1-0.
