ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team announced its 2021-22 non-conference schedule on Tuesday, highlighted by a pair of trips to basketball-rich North Carolina and Indiana.
In total, the Bulldogs will have 14 non-Big South opponents, with seven home games, six road contests and one neutral-site tilt.
"I think it's a really challenging schedule, and it's one I'm really proud of," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Mike Morrell. "I think we got some really good home games that our fans are going to enjoy back in Kimmel Arena."
Asheville will open with a tough road test on November 9 in Birmingham, Alabama, when it faces UAB. The Bulldogs return to Asheville for their home opener on November 11, hosting Brevard College.
On November 14, Asheville travels to Chattanooga for the first of two matchups with the Mocs in the 2021-22 season. Four days later, the Bulldogs face Tennessee Tech in a neutral-site game at Chattanooga before heading up to Chapel Hill to play the North Carolina Tar Heels on November 23.
November 28 is the first of three home games for the Bulldogs, hosting St. Andrews, The Citadel (December 1) and Chattanooga (December 8). On December 11, the Asheville takes a short drive down the road to Western Carolina before visiting UT Martin on December 14.
Asheville returns home to host ETSU (December 18) and Milligan (December 21), before closing out the non-conference slate at Indiana on December 29.
"Just overall and collectively I think it's a really good schedule. I think it's going to prepare us for the Big South," Morrell said. "We know our league from top to bottom is going to be tough so we want to build a schedule that gives us an opportunity to compete at the highest level and I think this does it."
