Women’s Tennis hosts Charleston Southern on Senior Day

ASHEVILLE N.C. – The UNC Asheville Women's Tennis team returns home on Sunday, welcoming Charleston Southern to the Asheville Racquet Club at 1:00 p.m.
The Bulldogs enter Sunday's match with an overall record of 5-7 and a conference record of 3-3. After two impressive Big South wins (Longwood, Campbell), Asheville has fallen to Radford and Presbyterian. Lize Alet Morkel has led Asheville this season, going a Big South best 8-3 at the No. 1 singles flight. Ami Grace Dougah has matched Morkel's play at the No. 2 singles flight, leading the conference with an 8-3 record. Dougah has teamed up with Rosie Dickson to go 7-2 at the No. 1 doubles, while Dickson is a perfect 5-0 in Big South singles competition.
Senior Day
Saturday marks senior day for the Bulldogs, as Asheville will honor Anastasia Horvat. The Cary, North Carolina, native has been a member of the squad since 2018, increasing her win total in each of her first three seasons. As a junior, Horvat earned four victories despite the Covid-shortened season. This season, Horvat has competed in 12 singles matches and one doubles match.
Scouting the Bucs
Charleston Southern sports a record of 7-7 and is a perfect 5-0 in Big South play. The Bucs hosted Presbyterian on Tuesday, defeating the Blue Hose 6-1. Madalina Man is 8-5 overall and 6-4 at the No. 1 singles flight. Tiffany Pyritz is just 4-7 on the season but is 4-1 against conference competition. Pyritz and Zoe Cauthen are 8-4 as a duo, with Man and Kyhanna Singh sporting a 7-5 record as a team.
Series History
In 14 matches, Charleston Southern has gotten the better of the series, going 12-2. The Bulldogs have had better luck recently, winning the 2019 matchup at the Asheville Racquet Club by a score of 4-3. Both of Asheville's wins in the series have come at home.
