Men’s basketball signs transfer Jordan Hairston

ASHEVILLE N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team announced the signing of transfer Jordan Hairston on Thursday afternoon, who spent the last two seasons playing for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi which competes in the Southland Conference.

"We are thrilled to add Jordan to this class," head coach Mike Morrell said of the addition. "He is an extremely competitive player who brings great experience to our program!"

The 6-foot-0 guard had a very strong rookie campaign in 2019-20, starting 19 of 26 games while averaging 12. 9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists per game, shooting an impressive 46.2 percent from the floor in the process. Hairston led the Islanders in scoring 11 times that season, dropping a season-high 25 points with seven made 3-pointers against Texas A&M. Despite breaking his foot last year, Hairston appeared in 16 games last season for the Islanders, averaging 5.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while dishing out 32 assists and registering 18 steals at guard.

A native of Centreville, Virginia, Hairston played his high school ball at Flint Hill, earning district and regional player of the year honors. Hairston competed for coach Devin Williams and the District Basketball Club (AAU), while his father, Rodney, played collegiately at George Mason University.
