Asheville, N.C. – After nearly two weeks off, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team will travel to High Point for its second conference matchup of the season on Saturday.
The Bulldogs, who haven't played since their home opener on February 21, were originally scheduled to travel to Charleston Southern last Sunday, but the Bucs were unable to play due to Covid-19 concerns within their program.
The match at Charleston Southern was postponed due to Covid issues within the Buccaneers program, while Radford was originally slated to host USC Upstate on Sunday, but Upstate could not make the trip due to Covid results.
The Bulldogs opened up their spring 2021 season against Campbell, putting up a valiant effort before ultimately falling 1-0 in overtime. Bronwyn Luitwieler was the story of the game for Asheville, registering a career-high 12 saves in her first start since 2018. Alice Walker, Lindie Clark and Madison Carter all registered shots in the effort as Asheville made Campbell earn every inch.
Being selected No. 1 in the Big South Preseason Poll, High Point enters the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record, registering wins over UNCG, Winthrop and Campbell. The Panthers defense has been stout, as the team has yet to concede a goal in 2021, with Morgan Hairston totaling nine saves in the process. Sam Gerhart has led the offense, scoring four goals and dishing out an assist
