Men’s basketball announces signing of Quay Kimble

ASHEVILLE N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball program announced the signing of Quay Kimble on Wednesday. Kimble joins Asheville after four strong years just up the road at Lees-McRae College

A 5-foot-10 guard, Kimble had a stellar career with the Bobcats, finishing fourth all-time in scoring with 1,335 points, first in career assists (434) and steals (189) and third in 3-point field goals made (227).

"Very excited to add a player of Quay's caliber and experience to our program," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Mike Morrell. "Bulldog fans and followers will really enjoy his style of play!"

In the abbreviated 2020-21 season, Kimble averaged 13.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, leading Conference Carolinas in 3-point field goal percentage (47.8), 3-pointers per game (2.8), assists per game (5.3) and assist to turnover ratio (3.2) in 12 games played. The Shelby, North Carolina, native drained three or more 3-pointers seven times while dishing out at least three assists every game and totaling five or more dimes seven times. Kimble, who shot an efficient 49.1 percent from the floor, ranked second in the league in steals per game (1.8), totaling 22 for the season en route to All-Conference Carolinas Second Team recognition for the second consecutive year.

As a rookie, Kimble wasted no time establishing himself as an impact player at Lees-McRae, averaging 10.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while leading the team in assists (97), ranking second in steals (43) and third in made 3-pointers (52) to earn Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year honors. A psychology major, Kimble was also named to the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll.

In his sophomore season, the sharpshooter collected All-Conference Carolinas Third Team honors after pacing the Lees-McRae offense with 65 made 3-pointers, total assists (100) and minutes played (890). In 29 games that season, Kimble led Conference Carolinas in steals and was second on the team in scoring (13.4 ppg) and rebounding.

During his junior campaign, Kimble would lead the Bobcats in: minutes played (908), 3-pointers made (77), assists (76) and steals (63), with his 90.4 shooting percentage from the free throw line setting a new program record for a single season. In a year that included a pair of 30-point games, Kimble became the ninth player in the history of Lees-McRae to eclipse 1,000-points scored for his career, ultimately earning All-Conference Carolinas Second Team honors.
