Baseball Continues Homestand with Three Against Radford

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team will continue its lengthy homestand this weekend as it hosts Radford for three games at Greenwood Field. Due to the forecast for Saturday, the start times have been altered. The Bulldogs and Highlanders will now play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 2 p.m. before wrapping up the series with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m. All three games will air on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – A three-run outburst in the top of the ninth led Gardner-Webb to a victory over Asheville Tuesday night in Big South action, 6-3.
Active Home Run Leader – Among active Division I players, Brandon Lankford ranks second with 38 home runs. Lankford, who is chasing down Asheville's all-time home run record of 42, was recently featured on the latest episode of the 'Faces of the Big South' series. Check it out HERE.
Freeberger Finding Success at the Plate – One Bulldog that is finding success in 2021 is Dominic Freeberger. Freeberger will bring a seven-game hitting streak into this weekend's series vs. Radford. Freeberger, who also leads Asheville with six multi-hit games this season, is hitting .385 in 26 at-bats during this stretch with one double, two triples, and one home run.
Sebastian on a Streak – Freeberger is not the only Bulldog bringing a streak into the weekend as senior Sebastian Dunn is riding a 10-game on-base streak. Dunn has reached base 15 times during the last 10 games and has come around to score six runs.
About Radford – The Highlanders are one of three Big South teams that have won 10 or more games so far this spring. Radford, which is 10-8 overall, is 5-4 against conference foes. A strength for Radford has been its ability to manufacture runs. As a team, the Highlanders rank among the top 30 nationally in sacrifice bunts (sixth) and flies (30th), which has contributed to 94 runs scored.
