Women’s Tennis battles, but drops Big South contest at Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team had its first Big South Conference match on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to Gardner-Webb and falling narrowly to the Runnin' Bulldogs 4-3.
Doubles has been the strength of Asheville recently, and Tuesday was no different, as the Bulldogs swept all three doubles flights. Ami Grace Dougah and Rosie Dickson downed their opponents 6-3 at the No. 1 flight to improve to 5-1 in overall as a duo. Lize Alet Morkel and Taylor Love looked very sharp in their match, cruising to a 6-1 win while Brianna Taranto and Beatrice Faureng gritted out a 6-4 win at the No. 3 flight.
Singles action, however, went Gardner-Webb's way, taking four of the six matches to ultimately earn the win. Morkel suffered her first solo loss of the season, but did not go down without a fight, taking the third set to a tie-break before dropping the No. 1 flight. Dougah dropped her first set 4-6, but bounced back to take the next two by that margin and earn the No. 2 singles victory. Dickson grabbed the only other solo victory for Asheville, dropping the first set but taking sets two (7-5) and three (6-4) at the No. 6 singles flight.
Asheville returns home for its next match, hosting Montreat College on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
