Freshman finished T-6th individually
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Madyson Gold shooting duplicated her strong performance from Saturday, firing 1-over-par 73 to tie for sixth place individually in the Low Country Intercollegiate held at the Bear Creek Golf Course on Hilton Head Island.
"Congrats to Mady on a fantastic tournament! When I say attitude is everything she exemplifies that the best in our team," said head coach Ericka Schneider of Gold's performance. "She lets the bad results roll off her back like water on duck. It's really fun to watch! She has such a great demeanor for golf and her swing is like watching art in motion. It's only a matter of time before she's hoisting a trophy on her own."
As a team, Asheville finished ninth with a 24-over-par 619.Â
"As for the team I feel like we are so close to getting a couple solid rounds back to back," said Schneider. "We start out strong and tend to lose a little steam after the first day. But again, this is a team of all freshmen and it's only our sixth round of college competition today. There is so much positivity, potential and growth with this team in a very short period of time and they are always excited for the opportunity to tee it up again and do better."
Gold continued to be steady, parring six holes on the front nine and finishing with a birdie on No. 9. The freshman from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, registered a birdie on hole No. 10, parring seven of eight holes on the back nine to turn in her second straight score of 73 and finish 2-over-par for the tournament.
After an opening-round 76, Amber Capote carded a 7-over-par 79 on Sunday to tie for 28th place. Hailey Pendleton registered a 77 on Saturday, posting a score of 83 on Sunday. Phoebe Carles rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs, knocking three strokes off her round one score with a five-over-par 77 in round two.
Asheville travels to Pinehurst at the end of the month, teeing it up at the Pinehurst Women's Intercollegiate starting March 29 where the Bulldogs were victorious in March of 2019.
"Coming into a tournament we are defending champions of, getting in some solid work these next two weeks is already on the girls minds as we drive back to Asheville. "They are already thinking of what's ahead and not what's behind us, which is fantastic to see as a coach!"
