ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Women's Golf team is set to return to action this weekend, opening up play in the Kiawah Island Classic hosted by Charleston Southern. The tournament, which is held on the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Cougar Point and Oak Point Courses, is the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, with 41 participating teams.
The action begins on Sunday morning with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m., with the same format to follow on Monday. After 36 holes of play, the top 19 teams will compete at the Cougar Point Course, with the rest of the field teeing it up at the Oak Point Course. Madson Gold, Anna McDonald, Venecia Zaia and Hailey Pendleton rounded out the lineup for the Bulldogs.
Asheville has played just one tournament so far this spring, but had a strong outing from an all-freshmen lineup at the Lady Bison Point Bay Classic (February 8-9). The Bulldogs were led by Phoebe Carles, who tied for ninth place individually and was later named the Big South Women's Golf Freshman of the Week after her impressive debut.
