ASHEVILLE N.C. – The UNC Asheville Women's Tennis Team returns home on Friday, hosting UNC Wilmington at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Bulldogs will welcome Belmont University to the Asheville Racquet Club, with the action beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Asheville enters the season 3-2 overall, coming off a 5-2 victory at Limestone on Saturday. The Bulldogs have been led by Lize Alet Morkel, who has gotten off to a perfect 4-0 record at the No. 1 flight this season. Against Limestone, Morkel was victorious at the No. 2 singles position, while teammate Ami Grace Dougah was victorious at the No. 1 singles flight and teamed up with Rosie Dickson to claim a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles position.
UNC Wilmington is just 1-2 on the young season, but has faced stiff competition in North Carolina and Coastal Carolina. The Seahawks, who were victorious 7-0 over N.C. Central on January 30, have used a variety of lineups, with Celeste Matute going 1-2 at the No. 1 singles flight while Maddy Muller-Hughes and Anna Parker-Shumate have teamed up to go 2-1 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Belmont, meanwhile, is 1-3 thus far in 2021, defeating Bellarmine 5-2 on February 4, but most recently falling to ETSU 6-1 (February 6). Like UNC Wilmington, Belmont has used various lineups so far, as Somer Henry has gone 1-2 at the No. 1 flight and Peyton Lee 1-0 in that spot.
