High Point downs Asheville in three sets on Friday
11.12.2021 | Women's Volleyball
HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point swept the UNC Asheville volleyball team in three sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-18) Friday evening in Big South action.
Stat Standouts – Asheville was led on Friday by senior Molly Hackett, who finished with team-highs in kills (10) and digs (16). It marked Hackett's ninth double-double of the season. Additionally, freshman Brandy Kishbaugh continued her double-double streak finishing with 13 assists and 11 digs.
Set 1 – Friday's match began well for Asheville as it scored the first four points of the contest. However, High Point quickly answered, scoring nine of the following 13 points to seize its first lead of the contest. Peyton McClinton posted five of her eight kills in the first frame, but it proved to be not enough as the Panthers won the first frame, 25-20.
Set 2 – The second set began with High Point and Asheville trading points. Asheville held an 8-6 lead after a Panther attack error. However, much like they did in the first set, High Point rallied in a big way. The Panthers went on a 15-1 run to regain control before eventually winning the second, 25-17, to take a 2-0 lead on the Bulldogs.
Set 3 – Asheville hung around with High Point in what proved to be the final set. After a McClinton ace and a kill from Hackett, the Panthers were up by just two points, 17-15. High Point saved its best for last, though, attacking the Bulldog defense at a .351 clip to go with 16 kills to finish off the three-set sweep of the Bulldogs, 25-18.
Note from Coach – "I thought our team played well and fought hard," said Head Coach Frederico Santos. "We got stuck in a few rotations which allowed them to catch up and recompose themselves in the match. Tomorrow is a new day, and we will fight again to get a result."
Next Up – Asheville will close out its season on Saturday as it visits North Carolina A&T. The first serve between the Bulldogs and Aggies is scheduled for 4 p.m., and the match can be seen on ESPN+.
