ASHEVILLE – Three-star prospect Silas Mason has joined the UNC Asheville men's basketball Class of 2020, head coach Mike Morrell announced, Wednesday.

A 6-7, 180-pound athletic and skilled forward from Greensboro, N.C., Mason joins the Bulldogs after a standout prep career at Ben L. Smith High School.

Mason is rated a three-star prospect by 247sports.com and Rivals. 247sports ranked Mason as the No. 12 player in the state of North Carolina and the No. 47 small forward prospect nationally. MaxPreps has Mason listed as their No. 22 prospect in North Carolina.

"I am extremely excited to add Silas to our program," Morrell said. "He comes from a great high school program in Ben L. Smith right here in North Carolina.

"Silas had a great high school career and his best days of basketball are still ahead of him. His size and athleticism are a great fit for our program and style of play."

As a senior, Mason averaged 20.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game, helping his team to a 21-8 overall record and a 7-3 mark in the Piedmont Triad Conference. The Golden Eagles finished second in the conference and advanced to the fourth round of the 3A state playoffs.

Mason was named to the all-conference team for the third consecutive season, and he was named a finalist for the Boys Basketball Player of the Year award at HighSchoolOT Honors. The North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association named him second-team all-state, and they tabbed him as the District 7 Player of the Year.

In 27 games as a junior, Mason averaged 8.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor.

Mason played AAU basketball for Team Felton, established by former North Carolina Tarheels standout and long-time NBA player Raymond Felton. Mason also played in the 7th-annual Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout held inside Kimmel Arena during Thanksgiving weekend against Asheville High School.
