Bulldogs Conference Home Opener Set for Friday

ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville's women's tennis team will host its first home Big South Conference matchup of 2020 when it welcomes Winthrop for a 2 p.m., Friday, showdown at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The Bulldogs (7-2) opened league play with a 6-1 victory on the road at USC Upstate, Wednesday.

EARNING RECOGNITION
Sophomore Lize Alet Morkel earned the Big South Conference's Player of the Week for the second straight week, February 19, after winning her match at No. 1 singles and at No. 1 doubles. It is the fourth time in her career she has won the honor. It is the third time already this season the Bulldogs have claimed the award, as senior Emily Sidor earned the recognition, January 29.
Ami Grace Dougah earned the league's Freshman of the Week Award, February 12, after going 2-0 in both singles and doubles in matches against Mars Hill and Wofford.

LEADING THE WAY
Dougah and Sidor each have 7-2 records in singles play to begin the year. Dougah has split time at the No. 1 and 2 spots, while Sidor has played at the No. 3 and 4 singles draws. Morkel has a 6-3 record playing at Nos. 1 and 2.
In doubles, Sidor and fellow senior Lauren Watson-Steel are 8-1 playing at No. 3, while Dougah and fellow freshman Brianna Taranto have teamed up for a 5-1 record at the No. 2 spot, while Morkel and Rosie Dickson are 5-2 at the No. 1 draw.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Winthrop is 2-6 on the season, but is 1-0 in conference play after defeating Hampton, 7-0, in Rock Hill. The Eagles are 0-5 in true road matches.
