Bulldogs Drop Road Contest to Belmont

NASHVILLE – UNC Asheville's men's tennis team fell in its second of three matches in three days on the road, as Belmont won a 7-0 decision, Saturday afternoon.
Belmont (4-3) jumped out to an early lead in the dual after taking the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and 2.
In singles action, three players for the Bulldogs (2-3) pushed their matches into third sets, but all would end up coming up just short. Playing in the No. 2 spot, Sirawit Daosaengsawang fell in his first set, 6-4, against the Bruins' Marko Ilic, but rebounded with a 6-1 victory to tie things up. Ilic, however, would take the final set, 6-4.
Reining Big South Conference Freshman of the Week Harry Thursfield moved up to No. 3 singles and won his first set against fellow freshman Arthur Toledo, 6-1. Toledo won a tight second set, 7-5, and finished the victory with a 6-3 result in the decisive third.
Finlay Ray McFadyen also won his first set, 6-3, against Belmont's Jake Briggs, but Briggs would go on to win the final two sets, both by a 6-3 margin.
"We had to make a couple of changes to our lineup today, but we still managed to give ourselves some great chances in a number of spots," head coach Tom Hand said. "Belmont is a good team and they fought for everything. Congrats to them for a strong performance and we will look forward to Chattanooga tomorrow."
The Dogs wrap up their road trip with a 1 p.m. matchup at Chattanooga, Sunday afternoon.
