Bulldogs Wrap Up Tennessee Road Trip at Chattanooga, Sunday

02.09.2020 | Men's Tennis

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – UNC Asheville's men's tennis concluded its stretch of three matches in three days Sunday afternoon, falling to Chattanooga, 6-1, at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs (2-4) picked up their lone point during singles competition, as Sirawit Daosaengsawang earned a straight-sets victory against Kerim Hyatt. He won the first set, 6-2, and then was able to earn the win with a tough second set victory via tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-2).

Leo Bierbaum opened strong against Jeffrey Deald at No. 4, winning his first set, 7-5. Dewald would respond with a 6-2 victory in the second set, and take the decisive third, 6-4.

Reining Big South Conference Freshman of the Week Harry Thursfield also won his opening set, at the No. 5 spot, winning the tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3) against Simon Bustamante. Bustamante won the second set, 6-2, and then took the third 1-0 (10-4).

Chattanooga (8-1) jumped out to an early lead in the dual, claiming the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions.

"UTC is a good team and we needed to take all the chances we had today if we were going to pull out the win," head coach Tom Hand said. "Unfortunately, we let a few go begging. We competed well all the way up and down at the end of a long week of tennis."

The Bulldogs will have two weeks off before returning to action at Appalachian State, Saturday, February 22.
