Bulldogs to Battle with Buccaneers Tuesday

Game Notes | vs. Charleston Southern

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball will take on the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern in a 6 p.m. matchup, Tuesday, January 14, inside Kimmel Arena.

UNC Asheville (11-4, 5-1) went 4-0 last week in a span of four games in eight days. The Bulldogs defeated Campbell and High Point at home and picked up some huge road wins versus USC Upstate and Radford.

UNC Asheville took down High Point Thursday night by a score of 76-60. Sonora Dengokl scored a season-high 26 points and the Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 24-8 in the third quarter of the game. The Bulldogs modeled that performance Saturday versus Radford as UNC Asheville took down the Highlanders, 63-50, on the road. Nadiria Evans scored a career-high 26 points in the game and the Bulldogs outscored the Highlanders 22-7 in the third quarter of that game.   

Charleston Southern has begun Big South Conference play with an 0-5 record. They are coming off two losses last week to Longwood and High Point and have also fallen to USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb and Radford. The Buccaneers have gone 0-6 in road games this season.

The Bulldogs are 37-32 versus Charleston Southern all time. UNC Asheville has won nine of the last 12 matchups between the two programs dating back to the 2013-14 season. The Bulldogs split the matchups with the Buccaneers last season and swept Charleston Southern in the 2017-18 season.

UNC Asheville outscored Radford 22-7 in the third quarter.  
  • UNC Asheville currently ranks 25th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game and 17th in rebounding margin. UNC Asheville is also 37th in total rebounds per game. The Bulldogs sit atop the Big South in all three categories. The Bulldogs have won or tied in the rebounding battle in 14 of their 15 games this season.
  • UNC Asheville is 13th in the nation in fewest points allowed and is currently second in the Big South in the category. UNC Asheville has allowed 60 points or less in all 11 of their victories this season.
