Bulldogs to Take on Appalachian State Sunday

BOONE, N.C. – UNC Asheville's women's soccer team will travel to Boone, N.C. to take on Appalachian State at 4 p.m., Sunday, September 1, at the Appalachian Soccer Stadium at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Bulldogs opened their regular season, Friday, August 23 with a 2-0 loss to American at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs then rebounded in a Sunday matchup at ETSU with a 1-0 overtime victory. The golden goal was scored by junior Skyler Chillson in the 96th minute after both defenses held the opposition scoreless at the end of regulation.
UNC Asheville and ETSU matched up well as the Bucs took 13 shots in the match, while the Bulldogs took 12. Bulldog goalkeeper, Courtney O'Malley, secured four saves in 78 minutes of play, giving her 11 saves on the season.
UNC Asheville's victory on August 25 was the first Bulldog win against ETSU since the 2009 season and the first road victory for the Bulldogs since the 2017 season.
Friday's matchup versus Howard was terminated with no result due to technical difficulties within Howard's facility.
Appalachian State opened their season 0-2 after taking losses to Radford and Wake Forest. They faced off against Duquesne, Friday, August 30, in a match that ended in a 1-1 tie. The Mountaineers played two exhibition matches prior to the season versus Western Carolina and ETSU that ended in 2-2 and 1-1 ties, respectively.
The Bulldogs and Mountaineers have faced off a total of 19 times with the Bulldogs winning eight of those matches. The two programs have not met since the 2013 season when Appalachian State took a 2-0 victory.
