Morrell Announces Addition of Trent Stephney

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's basketball second-year head coach Mike Morrell announced the addition of Trent Stephney recently.
A 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard, Stephney joins the UNC Asheville men's basketball program out of Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tenn.
"It's not often that you can add a 2,000-point scorer and a guy that knows how to win like Trent to your program," Morrell said. "He helped lead his team to the AAA state title recently, and obviously putting up those kinds of scoring numbers speaks for itself. He is also a really good distributor who will challenge for playing time right away for us. I look forward to introducing Trent to Bulldog fans. They are going to love getting to know him."
Stephney becomes a UNC Asheville Bulldog as noted after shining for the Bearden Bulldogs during his prep career. He scored 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting in the AAA state championship game to help lead Bearden to its first-ever state title. Stephney was an all-region and all-state selection as well during his senior season for Bearden.
Stephney is the latest from the Knoxville area to join the Bulldogs. A finalist for Mr. Basketball at the AAA level in the 2016-17 season, UNC Asheville's Tajion Jones was second on the Bulldogs during his redshirt freshman campaign in 2018-19 with 10.2 points per game.
Stephney joins AJ McBride as the two newest additions to the 2019-20 Bulldog roster. A 6-foot-1 guard out of Houston, Texas, McBride joined the Bulldogs out of Manvel High School.
