04.05.2019 | Baseball

Highlights

The two teams were scoreless for the first four innings before the Blue Hose were able to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Bulldogs (11-18, 6-4 Big South) would take the lead for the first time in the game in the top of the seventh with the back-to-back home runs by Madole and Lankford that allowed UNC Asheville to go ahead 2-1 in the contest.

The home run by Madole was his fourth of the season. All four of his home runs have come in league play.

Lankford currently leads the Big South with 10 home runs on the season after his solo shot in game one at Presbyterian College (12-18, 5-5 Big South). Lankford has now homered in back-to-back games as well. He also homered earlier this week at Charlotte. Lankford now has 28 home runs in his career. His 10 home runs already this season ties his career-best that he originally set during his Freshman All-American season in 2017.

The Bulldog advantage would only last until the bottom half of the frame where the Blue Hose would post two runs to take a 3-2 lead. Presbyterian College would add one more bottom of the eighth on a home run to pick up the 4-2 win.

UNC Asheville ended the game with three hits to eight for Presbyterian College. Greg Gasparro had UNC Asheville's other hit on the day on a single through the right side in the top of the ninth inning.

Johnny Cook led the Blue Hose with two hits.

Eric Miles (4-2) captured the win for the Blue Hose on the mound. He pitched the first eight innings. Matt Norton pitched the ninth to collect his third save of the year.

UNC Asheville's Jordan Carr (2-5) suffered the loss. He pitched the first 6.1 innings and struck out five. Blake Brown pitched the final 1.2 innings for the Bulldogs, fanning two.
