Baker Named to North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State Team

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – UNC Asheville freshman standout DeVon Baker has been named second-team all-state by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).
A total of 10 student-athletes from eight different North Carolina schools were named to the first and second teams that were released by the NCCSIA on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
A freshman guard out of Dayton, Ohio, Baker put together an elite freshman season for the Bulldogs.
Baker led all freshmen in the Big South in points per game with 16.1 points per game. He finished his season with 498 points. The point total is 10th-best for all freshmen in the history of the Big South.
Baker ended the season having scored in double figures 26 times this past season. He also averaged 3.0 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game.
In total, Baker closed out the 2018-19 Big South regular season in the top-10 in six major categories. He led all freshmen in the Big South in points, assists, free throw percentage, steals, minutes played and assist-to-turnover ratio.
Nominations were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, softball and baseball.
